심심한 차에 한국에 관한 내용들을 번역해볼까 합니다.

먼저 한국에 대해서 개괄적으로 설명해놓은 부분이에요.

An independent Korean state or collection of states has existed almost continuously for several millennia.
Between its initial unification in the 7th century - from three predecessor Korean states - until the 20th century, Korea existed as a single independent country. In 1905, following the Russo-Japanese War, Korea became a protectorate of imperial Japan, and in 1910 it was annexed as a colony. Korea regained its independence following Jpan's surrender to the United States in 1945. After World War II, a Republic of Korea (ROK) was set up in the southern half of the Korean Peninsula while a Communist-style government was installed in the north (the DPRK). During the Korean War (1950-53), US troops and UN forces fought alongside soldiers from the ROK to defend South Korea from DPRK attacks supported by China and the Soviet Union. An armistice was signed in 1953, splitting the peninsula along a demilitarized zone at about the 38th parallel. Thereafter, South Korea achieved rapid economic growth with per capita income rising to roughly 14 times the level of North Korea. In 1993, KIM Young-sam became South Korea's first civilian president following 32 years of military rule. South Korea today is a fully functioning modern democracy. In June 2000, a historic first North-South summit took place between the South's President KIM Dae-jung and the North's leader KIM Jong Il. In October 2007, a second North-South summit took place between the South's President ROH Moo-hyun and the North Korean leader.

대부분 한국인이라면 알고 있는 평이한 내용들을 기술하고 있네요.

수천년간 하나의 국가로 혹은 여러 나라로 쪼개져서 존재해옴
최초의 통일 국가는 고구려, 백제, 신라를 통일한 7세기의 통일 신라이고...
그후 20세기까지 하나의 독립된 국가로 존재해옴(발해나 후삼국시대는 잘 모르는 듯 -_-)
1905년 러일 전쟁에 의해 일본의 무력지배를 받기 시작했고 1910년에는 일본의 식민지가 됨
1945년 일본이 미국에 패전하면서 다시 주권을 되찾음
2차대전 후 남한, 북한 따로 정부 수립
6.25전쟁 동안 미군과 유엔군은 남한군과 함께 북한군, 중공군, 소련군과 싸웠음
1953년에 휴전협정맺고 38선을 기점으로 DMZ 생김
남한은 빠른 경제성장을 했고, 그 결과 1인당 소득이 북한보다 14배나 높음
1993년에 김영삼 대통령이 32년간의 군사 통치를 끝내고 최초의 문민 대통령으로 당선
한국은 현재 민주화가 잘 되어 있다고 평가 -_-;;
2000년도에 남북 정상회담(김대중-김정일)
2007년 10월에는 제2차 남북정상회담(노무현-김정일)
최근 이명박 대통령 당선 등등의 내용은 없네요~

수천년에 이르는 대한민국의 역사를 -_-;;
아주 간략하고 깔끔하게 정리를 잘해 놓았어요.
